I had a client that attended one of my classes last week. I noticed him because he was late to my class and his cell phone rang during my teaching. I kindly asked him to excuse himself and take the call outside. As he stood up I was struck by his face. Yes he was a handsome man but his face was full of sadness and emptiness. 

At the end of my class he was in line to ask me a few questions. He was a client but from a different branch and he asked if I could be his counselor. I said I would see what I can do. The entire time I could not stop looking into his eyes and just see the sadness. I asked him to come the following week for a session.

I had a rough day yesterday due to the fact that it was quite busy. I did notice that the client was there from last week. He asked me if I had time to see him. I was in a rush and said I could only give him 30min. He came into the office and proceeded to tell me that he was facing a hardship and could no longer pay his mortgage because of loss of income. He stated that his partner of 22 years just passed away last month. He put his head down and began to cry. He felt lost, hurt, and confused. He was trying to find a way out and he stated that when he saw me that he knew that I would help him. As touched as I was to hear that, I was also pressured because his story was so sad. He stated that the family of his partner was already knocking on his door asking for a percentage of the house since they both owned it. They also wanted some of the things that belonged to his partner. 

Not only did he lose his love he also is in the midst of losing his home to the bank and to family members showing no compassion. All because legally he does not have the right to marry. The laws are not protecting him as a second class citizen. During the entire session, which lasted an hour, I realized this could be me or Michael at any moment. I told him that he needs to care for himself first and foremost. He also needs to make sure that his health is in tact. I am going to help him but I want him to help himself as well.

I am going to make this my personal mission to help Client X, stay tuned...

Hey ya'll!

I am going to meet one of my all time favorite Mexican Singers Fey! The show will be tonight at Circuit and I am meeting her at midnight. I am soooooooooo excited!!!! She is my Mexican Paula Abdul. If you don't know who she is, here are some of her videos to show you.

So, we got clearance from the parents. We were ready to finally announce to everyone the exciting news that we are going to get married. We took Michael's 29th birthday party as a perfect opportunity to make it our engagement party as well. Our friend, Julio let us rent his party room from his building on the lake front. It was a spectacular view of the lake and the shoreline of the city.

We invited quite a few people and many showed but most importantly, my mother and his parents were there to share the news. My mother just had surgery and was not feeling well, she wanted to at least show up and meet his parents. Everyone sat down for dinner and mother was not feeling well so she was leaving. We walked her out and told her about our engagement in the hallway. She seemed to be excited but she was in some pain so we couldnt really tell. My brother was super excited and said 'that's tight dawg' that means, I'm so happy for you in his lingo.

We walked back into the party and grabbed the microphone and thanked everyone involve for helping us put the party together. We then announced to everyone that we officially got engaged on 8-14 and we were getting married in church on 8-14-2010. Everyone clapped and seemed truly excited. Then mah boo said he wanted to sing a song he wrote. I was like awww shit this is sooo touching! I sat down and then he sang "I dont want to love you" I dont want to love you", I was like is that song breaking up with me???? I was ready to go cra cra on someone. But at the end he cleared up the song by saying that he loves me. Ok I calmed down at the end of that song.

I then grabbed the mic and said I was going to sing a song and everyone yelled noooooo! HATERS!!! There were some haters in that room! So  I asked a friend to sing Sweet Love by Anita Baker for me.

After all the singing, we took the party and walked outside and watched the fireworks from Navy Pier. It was a magical and romantic night. I could never have dreamt of an engagement party better than this.

Since mah in-laws were cool with us getting married we saw nothing stopping us from making it official. We are having a birthday party for mah boo on Saturday and we decided why not tell everyone at the party and make it official. So the night before on 8/14/2009 we were talking about officially getting engaged and trying to figure it out.

I said why make an elaborate thing? We can just make this personal and intimate rather than some big story. So we were getting ready for bed because we had a long day ahead of us. We layed in bed and started to tell each other how we felt about each other and how we wanted to spend the rest of our lives together. I went to get the chains, mah boo officially asked me and I said yes. Then I officially asked him and he said yes.

We were both very emotional, may boo is the music to my soul! It was so touching and endearing. I could not have asked for a more memorable engagement. I never imagined myself in this situation, but here I stand in-love and ready to marry.

He Finally put a ring on it!!! or I mean a chain!!!

Since mah boo had surgery his mother decided to come to visit earlier to help watch him and help mah boo recooperate. His parents were planning a visit and I was quite nervous. You see, his parents are real religous and they still are having a hard time dealing with the fact that their son is gay. Not my moms, she was real cool after a few beers.

Anyway, we talked to his parents over the weekend and we did the best we could. We told them that we plan to get engaged and get married. Surprisingly, they were completely ok with us gettting married. They said they had a problem with us living together without a formal commitment. We were both surprised about that. How cool!

I think it may be too early to call them hey MAS or hey PAPS! I think I might stick to their first name for now. We have a challenging road ahead of us but they are really cool with us getting married.

Todays bitch slap has to go to... ME!!!!

Can ya'll beleive this? I gave myself a bitch slap. Here's why.

Mah boo started complaining about pains on his side on Wednesday, I said oh boo sleep it off you be alright! Then he complained more and even missed work. I was like whoops! He must be in pain. So on Thursday I said boo take yourself to the Hospital and I will meet you after work.

He went to the ER and they said it was likely appendicitis. So, I got out of work and told him that I was going to drop off a bat for my team at the park and then head over. My softball team was in the championship. As soon as I got there, everyone said you should stay like you gonna do much at the ER.

I said your right! So I stayed and played a couple of inning and even hit a home run. I then took my ass to the ER and found out they were gonna do surgery on mah boo. I felt so bad that I was away but I sho did get over it when I got the text that our softball team won the championship.

I have give myself a big ass WHACK!!!! for being a brokedown boyfriend and not tending to mah boo right away!

So neither mah boo or I have ever known a gay couple to be married or engaged, so we feel like we could do anything we want. We both decided not to do engagement rings but rather necklaces just as a symbol of our engagement. We went shopping and we both found two chains that we both liked. They are not the same they both display our individual style.

We bought them but we decided not to make it official until after his parents visit. We felt that we need to first let them get use to us as a couple rather than an engaged couple. So we got chains but still aint put it on!!!

So mah boo texted me the other day and said I have a surprise for you. I was like 'oh snap, he bought me something' whooo hoo! I get home and he told me that the church called him back and they said they would allow us to do our ceremony there. I bout shit my pants! I could not beleive it, I never imagined they would do it. So I was very happy and said well good to know. He then told me I booked it for August 14 2010! Oh my god! I is gonna be an honest man by next year! hells yeah!

Ya'll know mah boo and I have been living together for almost a year and have been together for almost two years. I know we sound like lesbians but we aint I assure you. Anyway, we started to talk about where we are headed as a couple and eventually talked about getting married. Considering that our country considers us 2nd class citizens, 3rd for me since my ass is a minority, we dont have rights on marriage as of yet. At least not in Illinois. We both agreed that regardless of what is legal, making a commitment in front of GOD in church is important to us both.

We went to a wedding at Northwestern University and that church was DA BOMB! I'm not one for churches cuz my ass gets scared walking in thinking Ima bout to struck by lightening but this place was amazing. I told mah boo, if we get married this is the place I would do it. Except my wedding would be nice, like that hot mess of a wedding we went to see. The bride's dress was COPPER! WTF?!?!?!?

Anyway, mah boo said he was gonna call the church to see if they allow same sex weddings. The church is only available to students or alumni so we were cool on that area, but I know they aint gonna let us do our thang there.

Tributes tinged with grief and disbelief poured in last night for Michael Jackson.

"I can't stop crying over the sad news. . . . I have always admired Michael Jackson," pop star Madonna told People magazine. "The world has lost one of the greats, but his music will live on forever! My heart goes out to his three children and other members of his family. . . . God bless."

Actress Elizabeth Taylor - one of Jackson's closest friends and chief defenders - was "too devastated by the passing of her dear friend Michael Jackson to issue a statement," her rep said, adding, "We will direct her words to you once we receive them."

"He was a kind, genuine, and wonderful man," Liza Minelli told Entertainment Tonight. "He was also one of the greatest entertainers that ever lived. I loved him very much and I will miss him every remaining day of my life," she said.

Longtime pal Brooke Shields said, "My heart is overcome with sadness for the devastating loss of my true friend Michael. He was an extraordinary friend, artist and contributor to the world. I join his family and his fans in celebrating his incredible life and mourning his untimely passing."

Jackson's ex-wife Lisa Marie Presley siad, "I am so very sad and confused with every emotion possible ... I am heartbroken for his children who I know were everything to him and for his family. This is such a massive loss on so many levels, words fail me."

Music producer Quincy Jones who produced "Thriller," said in a statement, "I am absolutely devastated at this tragic and unexpected news ... I’ve lost my little brother today, and part of my soul has gone with him. ... For Michael to be taken away from us so suddenly at such a young age, I just don't have the words. ... He was the consummate entertainer and his contributions and legacy will be felt upon the world forever. I've lost my little brother today, and part of my soul has gone with him."

Former Sony Music head Tommy Mottola praised Jackson's versatility. "He bridged the gap between rhythm and blues and pop music and made it into a global culture," he said.

Another buddy, psychic Uri Geller, said from London, "I am in shock like the rest of the world and I want this all to be a horror film and not really happening."

"I have known Michael for years and we were close. He was my best man when I renewed my marriage vows, I designed his latest CD jacket. . . . I will miss him very much."

Geller said he was taking Jackson's death especially hard because, "I know for a fact he was in good shape and getting ready for his big comeback."

In New York, the Rev. Al Sharpton called his friend of 35 years a "trailblazer," adding "to say he was an icon would only give the young people of Harlem a fraction of what he was."

He praised Jackson for learning "how to create even beyond his own shortcomings. He knew he had shortcomings but he knew how to build his strengths."

Sharpton said a tribute to Jackson would be held at the famed Apollo.

Thursday night, the theater's marquee proclaimed: "In memory of Michael Jackson, A True Apollo legend, 1958-2009.

Singer John Legend hailed Jackson as one of music's great performers.

"As a child of the '80s, I feel as though his music and his videos have been an inseparable part of my life and that of an entire generation," he said. "And the powerful thing about great music is that it will always live on. He was and always will be an icon."

Singer Lance Bass, who was at a City Hall event, called Jackson "a musical hero of mine and a great friend.

"We did many things together, a lot of charity work and I got to sing with the Jackson Five when they were reunited," Bass said. "Michael was a huge supporter of my career and I'll definitely miss him."

Actor Jamie Foxx, who learned of Jackson's death during a TV interview, said, "I hope he is remembered for the brilliance of his music and not for the circus sideshow his life had become."

Director Steven Spielberg said, "Just as there will never be another Fred Astaire or Chuck Berry or Elvis Presley, there will never be anyone comparable to Michael Jackson. His talent, his wonderment and his mystery make him legend."

Singer Dionne Warwick said, "Michael was a friend and undoubtedly one of the world's greatest entertainers. We have lost an icon in our industry."

Expressions of mourning even shot through cyberspace. Ashton Kutcher and his wife, Demi Moore, paid heartfelt tributes to Jackson on their Twitter pages.

Kutcher wrote: "RIP. Sending love and light to family and friend."

Moore's message was, "I am greatly saddened for the loss of both Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson. Especially for their children!"

Other tributes came from Miley Cyrus - "Michael Jackson was my inspiration. Love and Blessings"; Ludacris - "If it not for Michael Jadkson I would not be where or who I am today."; MCHammer - "I have no words...I loved Michael Jackson."; and Kelly Rowland - "We thank you for such a driving inspiration in music and our lives. This has got to be one of the saddest days in music history."

Janet gave a heartfelt thank you to all of Michael's fans at the BET awards last night. Once news spread about the passing of the King of Pop, BET decide to change their award show completely and dedicate it to MJ. There were performances and tributes to the late dancer. It was an emotional show.

Ya'll know I started a new job in the community helping my peeps. I decided to take this job and leave my Northbrook job to be more in touch with my peeps.

My first day went well until I was leaving the office. One of the ladies said "Goo nite Mijo! Baby weech way you goin home?" I replied, "my car is down the street" She then said, "Okkay jus becarefool baby cuz they chooting right down tha street! Have a goo nite!"

WTF???? I was like shooting? Where? Ima duck my ass to the ground!!!! But it was all good I made it to my car and I made it home. But it looks Dorothy is not in Northbrook anymore. Oooh Weee!!!

I decided to try out for another dance audition for the 2nd year in a row 'Open House Fundraiser.' I got a part in the Hip Hop dance inspired by Step Up 2 the streets.

The dance moves are gonna be fierce and the costume I hear that bling is gonna be required. I can't wait! Our first rehearsal is Sunday July 12th. The show is in September but I'll keep you guys posted.

Today would have been your 84th birthday and I would have been in Vegas spending it with you. A year ago today I took you to dinner and spent some quality time with you. I can't even begin to tell you how much I miss you and need you. I have made some changes in my life and I think you would have been proud of some the choices I have made this past year.
